Rah Rah Ree, Kick 'em in the knee! Rah Rah Rass, kick 'em in the other knee!  Lets give it up for another homecoming game quality Hunnypot Live! Show.

Ryan Taalbi started the event with his smooth on air introduction and commentary.  John Anderson quarterbacked from the start and threw pass after glorious pass of musical touchdowns. Our guest DJ Marko Desantis brought his special teams skills and gave us a 100 yard sprint of his rich musical history and tastes.

Bronson Wisconsin delivered #1 draft pick level Americana music and performance, Denmantau brought us unique futbol style all the way from Germany, Groove Martini played a halftime show worthy dance music set, Swerve played killer defense and scored with the audience and Veronica Loren victory danced and sang in the end zone and nearly got flagged. Bri & Jaz got drafted to provide their DJ stylings between sets and rocked the dance party late in to the night.  7-11-16

BRONSON WISCONSIN

Bronson Wisconsin is a tasteful collaboration of Alt-Country, Indie-Rock, and everything in between. Growing up as one of 9 kids in a musically diverse home, brothers Bronson and Preston was exposed to all the music they could handle and more than enough instruments needed to express themselves. Spending the long, cold Wisconsin winters the same way they spent the hot and beautiful summers, practicing their craft.

After achieving success as the globally recognized latin duo, Taalbi Brothers, Bronson went on expressing a different side of himself as a singer and as a songwriter. What started out as a "one day one song" demoing session, quickly turned into "3 days, 6 songs" and before they realized it, the brothers had themselves their first EP as Bronson Wisconsin.

"That Damn Piano" is releasing on Friday, June 10th in Bronson Wisconsin's hometown of Madison, WI.

Michete was previously identified as having one of the "Best 50 Hip Hop Albums of 2015" by Spin, a magazine which also picked "Come Get It, Daddy" as one of "The Best 66 Songs of 2016" last Sunday. Bombay Beach Revival

BOMBAY BEACH REVIVAL

BOMBAY BEACH REVIVAL is a soul trio from Los Angeles, conceived by producer and guitarist, Daniel deBlanke.

DeBlanke's sparse textures and blistering tenor expose delicate nerves that most shield -- a realization of mortality, the longing to be a father, and then, the unfolding magic of a voice found through fatherhood.

Somewhere between the beaches and the Silver Lake Hills lies a sweet, late night melancholy found on the group's debut album, "Another Soul".  Each song could be the last song of the record, the last song before the lights come on at the bar, or the song you sing to yourself as you head home.

Drawing from influences like Otis Redding, Stax, Motown, Little Richard, and the great and easily overlooked Lonnie Johnson, Bombay Beach Revival's honest and aching simplicity has already found fans from around the world.  Look for "Another Soul" coming in the summer of 2016.

JEMUHNI

Jemuhni was Recently featured in Music Connection Magazine's July 2015 issue for his debut album ‘This Is Worth It.’  And then again in their December 2015 issue under ‘Top 25 New Albums of the Year’  Edgy, dark and cinematic, this artist’s songs leave us marveling at his originality.  Not only does he bring a daring vision to his Alt-Pop Hip-Hop style but he succeeds in a way that is as accessible as it is ahead of the curve.  Whether it’s the dynamic, dramatic Chinese gong that’s matched with heavy rock riffage on the sexy song  “Red Dragon,” or the epic, humming, buzzing synthesizer stokes in the percussive, hip-hop infused “Don’t Back Down,” or the more orthodox yet no less original “Learn to Fly” (where he shows his vocal dynamics with an effective falsetto) Jemuhni never forgets the value of a catchy hook.  He avoids predictability as gamely as so many other artists cling to formulas.Jemuhni plays all the instruments on his tracks and produces everything himself.

ZACHG

In 2000 I didn’t start rapping because people liked rap music. There weren’t people around me making rap music, it wasn’t cheap to get the gear, it wasn’t easy to make rap music, and it wasn’t easy to share your music with billions of people. I started rapping because hip hop was the most powerful thing I had ever encountered. More powerful than skateboarding, and skateboarding was supercharged electricity to me. In my personal quest to make my livelihood and my art indistinguishable nothing was impossible. Hip hop may not have taught me that, but hip hop made it tangible and possible for me. I left loved ones behind; I moved from Weston to New York to, LA, to Arcata, to Oakland, to Mendocino, to San Francisco, to New York, to Las Vegas, to LA; I wrote for the Mishka blog for 3 years and helped to define the internet rap era; I made Hyperbolic Chamber Music 1 & 2 with 27 and 35 rappers respectively; I endured homelessness for a year and got hit by a car in the middle of it; I survived off food stamps, trimming and selling weed, occasional freelance work, and eventually a steady job as a community manager for a tech company. For 5 years I did whatever it took to ensure that I’d be able to keep making music on my terms for the rest of my life. I didn’t do anything to get more popular, I didn’t do anything to make money off my music, I just kept making music, kept turning down the wrong opportunities, and kept ensuring that I’d be making music tomorrow, and dealt with whatever life threw at me. I got fucked over a lot, and it made me work harder. People look at me and think I’m a nerdy privileged white guy, but that has more to do with their eyes than my life. I’m a person who came from the outside with nothing, and made a lane for himself. My life was defined in large part by my father’s job. He is a criminal defense attorney to some of the world’s biggest accused narcotics entrepreneurs, murderers, Mafiosos, and various bad guys who make up the fabric of hip hop signification today. Grisleda Blanco was the lady who was gonna kill my whole family long before she was a hip signifier. That's what I came from, but I don't wear it on my sleeve. I know who I am, and I stay in my lane. People don’t get that my music is about selling drugs, breaking the law, smoking lots of weed, not letting anyone stop you from reaching your goals, pervert sex, dealing with the isolation that comes with relentlessly pursuing your personal idea of success, and remaining positive. That’s okay, I don’t expect everyone to get it, in fact I design it that way. My music is designed for people who listen.

I’m an artist who earned an MA so that I could always have the last word on my art, and no critic or scholar would ever be able to hold anything over me. I’m the Jew who went to Catholic high school and got voted funniest in the senior superlatives. I’m the journalist who the artists respect, and I’m the artist who the journalists hate. I’m the rapper who has always made his own beats, mixed his own records, done his own art, and shot his own videos. I’m the musician who releases music on his own label. I’m a pervert and a feminist. Who I am is the result of a lot of disparate elements coming together and working on me being a rapper. I’m almost 35 and I never blew up, and that’s fine with me, because I just wanna keep making the music I love. If the world ever comes around I'll be here, and if not I'll still be here all the same.

Its more mainstream sound developed with the addition of bassist Michael Sklena and songwriting collaborations with Julien Jorgensen and Brad Kohn.

LUKE TOP

Luke Top is best known for being the singer and co-founder of Fool’s Gold, a band that has enjoyed international acclaim for their unique blend of African dance music and New Wave pop stylings since 2009. His new release Suspect Highs is a step inward for the songwriter, resulting in his most personal collection of songs to date. It was self-produced during a period of relative isolation after several years of touring and being in bands full time.

The sound of the album itself is somehow familiar, yet can’t be ascribed to any particular era. There are subtle parallels to the world music touchstones of Fool’s Gold, but the music stands alone as something wholly new; a singular offering of intimately spun chamber-pop, constructed with lush arrangements and topped with Luke’s trademark melismatic croon.
Suspect Highs limited edition vinyl is now available via Org Music. Digital formats available for purchase and streaming via Grand Gallop.

MIDNIGHT DIVIDE

Things are happening fast for Los Angeles based MIDNIGHT DIVIDE. After nearly a year of writing sessions and toiling in three different studios, singer, songwriter and producer Austen Moret finally saw his indie/alternative project come to fruition with the band’s debut EP: Embrace The Wave on September 1st, 2015. The EP managed to crack the CMJ 200 at #149 in early October, receiving widespread national college and specialty radio airplay. The group also placed 2nd at the Hollywood Battle Of The Bands.  Not a bad start.

The five track EP, which Austen wrote and produced took longer than expected but was well worth the wait.  “I tried a lot of different ideas out for this record.  It took forever to finally feel like I had arrived at the sound I wanted. I wanted a BIG band sound.  Tribal drums, huge guitars, driving bass and electronics…I wanted people to hear it and say “damn…I need to hear this live”.”

For live performances, long time friends and live band members: Dan Beltran (lead guitar), Steve Robinson (bass)  and Mike Aguado (rhythm guitar) joined Austen in April of 2015, along with Mark Colgrove (keys) in September. Sab Cahrunas (drums) joined in October 2015 to replace former percussionist Eddie Vyeda.  Together, they provide the backing band so vital in bringing the songs to life.

The band is currently working on on their debut LP to release sometime in the Fall of 2016. Their current EP Embrace The Wave is available in all digital stores and in physical copy at shows. The band plays regularly in Los Angeles and surrounding area.

Driving down to the Santa Ana on Saturday evening, I could not help but wonder what I had gotten myself into.  Over the past 30 years, I could not count on one hand the number of black metal concerts I had been to.  The closest I have been to the darker side of rock might have been Metal Church at the Santa Monica Civic in 1989 (and still think the spinning upside cross haunts me to this day).  Sure, I have listened to bands like Slayer and Mercyful Fate and have many of their classics in my collection.   However, none of that would have prepared me for what I was about to experience at my first Behemoth show.  Driving away from my quite suburban neighborhood in Long Beach,  I  cranked up their 10th album, "The Satanist", for the 45 minute trek down the 405 to Orange County.  As Behemoth's haunting sound began to take over my sound system,  I knew that this would be a rock n'roll show unlike any I have ever seen.

On Saturday May 7th., Behemoth convened their legions of followers at the Observatory in Santa Ana for what was to be their last U.S show (Number 13 to be exact) supporting the Blasfemia Amerika Tour.  After a chilling set from opener Myrkur, Behemoth took the stage at 9:45pm in front of a near-capacity crowd.  The masses in the pit began to swirl feverishly as Bass-guitarist Orion (Tomasz Wroblewski), Guitarist Seth (Patryk Sztyber) and Drummer Inferno (Zbigniew Prominski) exploded onto the stage.  Then out from the shadows,  front-man and guitarist Nergal (Adam Darski) took center stage and kicked off the show with crowd favorite, Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel.   To say that this place went ballistic would be an understatement. Within moments of their opening salvo, everyone was on their feet and a massive mosh pit had erupted in the center of the floor.  A crowd surfer floated effortless across the crowd towards the front of the stage with a shirt that ominously read, "Your God Cannot Save Me".  What a strange foreshadowing of the evening to come.

For those that are not die-hard Behemoth fans, you should know that this band has an immense catalog of music that span an amazing 25 year career.  They are known for having a dark signature sound coupled with multi-layered vocals.  One also can hear a distinct middle eastern influence in their melodies that sets their sound apart from others in the blackened metal genre. Throughout the show, those in attendance were continually floored by many of their classics including Furor Divinus, Ben Sahar, and Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer.  Each song rocked the Observatory in a way that made you feel like the walls may be coming down any moment.  On top of that, Behemoth performed two kick-ass encores featuring standards such as Conquer All and Slaves Shall Serve.  Nergal ended the evening just as he started it with a near flawless version of Chant for Eschaton 2000 (off the 1999 album "Satanica").   Simply amazing!

When the show was over and all the dust had settled, I took a moment to reflect on my first evening with Behemoth.  Although I went into the show with eyes wide open, I had very little to compare it to going in.  Prep for the evening came down to listening to Behemoth's latest album and watching a few of their videos on YouTube.   Based on what I saw prior to the show, my expectations for the evening were honestly pretty low.  It just seemed to be such a departure from bands like Van Halen, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden which I grew up with as a child of the 80's.   Fast forward two hours later, and I can honestly say I have been converted to one of their faithful.  Nergal, Orion, Seth, and Inferno laid it all on the line in for their Southern California congregation on Saturday night.  The show was one for the ages, combining their dark haunting sound along with amazing imagery that left plenty to one's imagination.  And if that were not enough, they kept up their high-energy theatrics the entire show - no drop off in intensity whatsoever (which is pretty rare for most live bands today).   To me, this is what metal is all about!

Hunnypot is still in the race.  Hot Tub Johnnie began the night with his platform of groovy tunes.  Mr. Bonzai regaled us with his tales of "being there" when rock n roll was dangerous, how he met John Lennon and a classic set of music.  Olivia Harris torched the live sets off, Kalen Lister belted out her epic compositions, Iconique dazzled with their electro/disco indentity, Phil Gibbs brought the heartache through music and Somos Uno made everyone believe Tijuana is really a place in Jamaica with their international reggae sounds.  5-2-2016

There is a line between insanity and genius that indie superhero, Mark Mallman has built a career on. There is something so engaging about his personality, solid songwriting, and wild stage persona that it's impossible not to be intrigued!

Glam-rocking Minnesotan cranks out flash-pot, binge-celebrating anthems of surprising cleverness with this hit single and video for your addictive enjoyment, "Monster Movies", which will leave you in awes with his mashed up vintage and space age techniques to achieve a unique, yet classic sound!

With 15 years of touring under his belt, his music/art experiments and retro-70s style has rocked the airwaves of countless radio and media outlets, as well as being written about by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, USA Today, Wired, NME, The Toronto Star, Chicago Sun-Times, the Denver Post and so on. Mallman continues,

“Yeah, my records have always been retro half breeds, but as far Monster Movies goes, I wanted to take it vintage and full blast 2014 in the same song. Now all I gotta do is invent a flux capacitor time machine, and start saving for a Delorean.”

Over the years, there have been many amazing rock and roll bands that have come and gone.  Not many can say that they have stood the test of time like Y&T.  Founded in Oakland California in 1974, Y&T were the innovators of the hard rock sound flourishing in the San Francisco Bay area at that time.  They were melting faces long before bands like Night Ranger, Faith No More, or even Metallica.  Five decades (and 18 albums later), Dave Meniketti and crew are still at the top of their game and have set the gold-standard for hard rock bands all around the world.

On Sunday April 14th, Y&T brought their “in-your-face” style of Rock and Roll toThe Canyon in Agoura Hills.  Vocalist (and Lead Guitar) Dave Meniketti, John Nymann (Guitar), Mike Vanderhule (Drums), and Aaron Leigh (Bass) delivered what many in attendance considered to be their best performance of the 2016 tour to date.  After a solid set from opener Red Dragon, Y&T took the stage around 9:00pm and ripped into their 1981 classic Hurricane with a fury that fired up the near-capacity crowd and set the stage for an amazing night of classic rock and roll.

Over the next two hours, those in attendance at the Canyon were treated to (what I personally consider) a near flawless performance from Y&T. Standards such as Lipstick and Leather, Don’t Stop Runnin’, and Mean Streak rocked the crowd and sounded as amazing as the originals did on vinyl over 20 years ago.  On top of that, fans were also treated to other "classics from the vault" such as Midnight in Tokyo, Barroom Boogie, and I Believe in You.  However, my favorite moment of the evening came near the end of the show with my all-time favorite Y&T song, Rescue Me.  The power and emotion of Meniketti vocally along with his amazing guitar skills elevated this already frenzied crowd to a whole new level.  Truly epic moment!

If you have not seen Y&T live, do yourself a favor and grab some tickets for this amazing rock-and-roll show.  Meniketti, Nymann, Vanderhule, and Leigh leave it all on the table in a 2 hour 20+ song extravaganza that will amaze even the most critical of fans.  Dave Meniketti understands what his fans want, and continues to deliver on that promise each and every show.  And to think that he still sounds as incredible as he did when he was 20 is truly amazing.  Looking forward my next show with this legendary band!
