ALBUM REVIEW - TWIN TEMPLE, GOD IS DEAD

Written by

Twin Temple is comprised of the devilish dynamic duo, Alexandra James and Zachary James and bring you the sound of satanic doo-wop, yes you read that correctly. With their sophomore album released on the spookiest day of the year, Friday, October 13th, God Is Dead takes you on a devilish dive into an exceptional musical realm.  It is the perfect blend of classic ‘50s doo-wop and rock 'n' roll with an unequivocal satanic twist.  Twin Temple delivers an album that's as entertaining as it is intriguing.

From the sounds of church bells resonating on their opening track “Burn Your Bible” to the ending track “God Is Dead”, you're transported into a world where the delightfully gloomy and rhythmic doo-wop meet in perfect harmony. Alexandra’s smooth sultry vocals effortlessly accompanied by Zachary’s methodic blues guitar drive Twin Temple’s unique sound at every turn.

The satanic themes sprinkled throughout are more flippant than genuinely menacing, and the duo manages to maintain their cheekiness and irony while paying homage to classic doo-wop sounds. Songs like "Black Magick" and "Be A Slut" paint a picture of passion with a twist of the occult, creating a juxtaposition that’s both stimulating and amusing.

One of the standout features both Twin Temple albums behold is the impeccable production with the recognizable sounds of an old 78 vinyl adds a layer of authenticity to the music, enhancing the overall listening experience.

Twin Temple’s sound is undoubtedly a niche sound that won't be for everyone, despite it's a remarkable artistic achievement. It successfully combines seemingly contradictory elements, creating a sound that's both new, yet familiar.

Musically, God Is Dead is a testament to the band's growth in versatility from their 2019 release Twin Temple. God Is Dead is an entrancing and fiendishly delightful experience that stands out for its originality and charm. If you're open to a union of vintage doo-wop, rock 'n' roll, with a touch of the sexuality, and a dash of the occult this album is well worth a listen.
