ALBUM REVIEW: JAHMIEL - AGAINST ALL ODDS

Written by

After keeping listeners engaged with several quality EPs, Jahmiel returns to the full-length format with Against All Odds. His fourth studio album gives him room to display the versatility that has made him one of dancehall’s most respected voices.

Released through Sweet Music, the 15-track project moves among introspective reggae, motivational anthems, soulful melodies, and hard-hitting dancehall. Collaborations with Masicka, Jahshii, Charly Black, and Yohan Marley add variety, but Jahmiel’s thoughtful lyrics and uplifting spirit remain its foundation.

“Dear Jahmiel” opens with an honest reflection on his struggles, growth, and journey. More than an introduction, it is a personal statement that establishes the album’s emotional depth.

“One Day” continues with a message of faith, perseverance, and belief in better days. “Watch Over Me” then changes direction through an urgent, fiery performance that demonstrates Jahmiel can attack a dancehall riddim as convincingly as he handles introspection.

“In Charge” maintains that intensity with lyrics about determination and controlling your destiny. “Living the Life” follows with a smoother celebration of the rewards earned through hard work rather than empty boasting.

“Legend”, featuring Jahshii and Masicka, is one of the album’s defining tracks. Its acoustic-inspired production supports three impressive performances: Jahshii supplies raw intensity, Masicka brings precise wordplay, and Jahmiel anchors everything with passion. Their chemistry makes it a major highlight.

“Material Girl” lightens the mood through a catchy, radio-friendly groove and Jahmiel’s effortless charisma. “The One” slows things further with an intimate love song that highlights the sincerity of his melodic delivery.

“What R We Waiting 4” restores the energy through an uplifting call to stop hesitating and seize the moment. Its infectious hook and vibrant production make it one of the album’s most engaging songs.

“Show Stopper”, featuring Charly Black, is another successful collaboration. Jahmiel’s smooth vocals blend naturally with Charly Black’s contagious energy, producing a fun dancehall anthem.

“King Kong” puts Jahmiel back into attack mode. His commanding flow and sharp lyrics emphasize strength and resilience, once again revealing how easily he shifts between soulful singing and aggressive dancehall.

“Why Worry”, featuring NHANCE, provides a reassuring message about trusting the process and refusing to become consumed by struggle. Their smooth performances complement each other beautifully.

“Last Days”, featuring Yohan Marley, is one of the album’s absolute highlights. Both artists examine the world’s condition and the need to remain grounded in faith and purpose. Yohan introduces a fascinating vocal dynamic: his tone sometimes recalls his father, Stephen Marley, before changing to reveal flashes of Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. Yet he blends those influences into a voice that feels distinctly his own.

“You Rise Me Up” focuses on gratitude, encouragement, and drawing strength from faith and others. Its sincerity makes it an effective bridge into the finale.

“Ulterior Motive” closes with a mature reflection on trust, loyalty, and recognizing people’s true intentions. Rather than ending with another explosion of energy, Jahmiel leaves listeners with a reminder to remain focused and genuine.

Against All Odds is Jahmiel’s strongest and most complete project to date. Following several impressive shorter releases, this album gives him enough space to present every side of his artistry without losing cohesion.

The guests, polished production, and memorable hooks contribute significantly, but Jahmiel’s sincerity leaves the deepest impression. Whether addressing struggle, ambition, romance, faith, or betrayal, he consistently sounds believable.

Against All Odds stands among 2026’s best reggae and dancehall releases. It rewards repeated listening while further cementing Jahmiel’s status as one of Jamaica’s most complete, thoughtful, and authentic artists.
