Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew threw another fantastic show. Hot Tub had an extremely fun set prepared as he dropped tracks from Glass Animals, Foxygen, Meg Myers, Earl Sweatshirt and HP favorite, Gzus Piece and much more.

LA music tastemaker and all-around industry guru, Allie Shaw joined us for her very first Hunnypot DJ set and interview. Allie is the CEO and founder of Manic Monkee Mgmt and Brand Developemnt, working with the likes of Public Enemy and Rachael Ray. For tonight though it was about the music and Allie prepared an excellent playlist for us. Blowing it out with many of her all-time favs including The LA Dream Team, Prince, The Dazz Band, Missy Elliot, Fat Man Scoup, Billy Squire and many more.

LA based multi-instrumentalist, Jack Littman was our first performer of the night. Jack took to the stage and blended a peerless set of synths, loops, padded hip hop beats and acoustic guitars layered perfectly with his powerful voice. Be sure to check out Jack's latest album, The Remedy, Vol. 1.

Phoenix based rockers, BLACK CARL were next to hit the stage. Black Carl brought their "Desert Soul" sound to Hunnypot and completely stole the show as lead singer Emma Pew blew us away with her powerful dynamics, reminicsent of the great Nina Simone. The all-around beat-driven performance was incredible.

Closing out the show was none other than LA based singer-songwriter, Heather Reid (formerly of the alt-rock band, The Murmurs). Heather took to the stage and played a beautifully crafted set of passionate songs about heartbreak, love and the joy in life. Mostly taken from her new album, Cross Wordswhich is available at her website http://heatherreidmusic.com.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 10/21/2013

HEATHER REID

“We were discovered in Williamsburg before it was Williamsburg,” says Heather Reid about her first record deal. Since that time as one half of iconic gay alt-rock band The Murmurs, Heather has been in two other bands, written a musical that went into development in London’s West End, co-wrote a Gold-selling single for Shakira, and became a mom. Yet only now is Heather releasing her first solo project independently.

Her independence has been hard-won and well-earned – a classic tale of the music business. At the height of her success with The Murmurs, Heather was singing on stage with Sarah McLachlan and Emmylou Harris at the Lilith Fair. Meanwhile, however, the band’s label was reshuffling, meaning despite their success and the promises made about promoting their next album, The Murmurs were without a record deal. Undeterred, Heather and her Murmurs bandmate Leisha Hailey formed a new group, Gush, and later Heather started her own band, Redcar.

Taking a break from the kind of songwriting she’s done traditionally, Heather pushed her creative boundaries writing Dear Bernard, a musical about love and the search for fame in 1970s New York. It ran for 24 performances in 2004 in Los Angeles before moving to London to be developed for the West End. The show ignited a passion for a new kind of writing for Heather, one where she could tell stories beyond her own experience and create a lively fantasy world (with dancers and backup singers too).

However, on Cross Words, her new album, Heather herself is front and center as a solo artist. It’s a record about heartbreak for sure, but not about feeling sorry for yourself. “It’s about owning my own role in the heartbreak and finding joy in the process of falling and getting back up again,” says Heather.

LA based industry tastemaker, John Lambremont (Kill Rock Stars and Shot Clock Management) joined Hot Tub for a special sit down interview and DJ Set. John prepared a handpicked collection of his favorite tunes at the moment including new gems from breaking artists - Hands, Haerts, NO, Body Parts and a few other artists we will all be hearing about very soon.

Boston based soul rocker, Jesse Dee was the first artist to take the stage and boy did he deliver. Jesse rocked out many of the standout cuts off his new album, On My Mind / In My Heart out now via Alligator Records.

Hitting the stage next was LA based rockers, The Bixby Dolls. This LA quartet lead by Curt Barlage performed a high energy 60s garage rock infused set, playing tunes off their 2012 release, Near & Undear as well as new tunes.

Making a name in the area with their intense pop-up shows, Psych Ward Druggies hit the stage and completely rocked out with a high energy performance of songs like "Respect The Shooter" and their current club single banger "Pop It For A Player".

Jesse Dee

JESSE DEE

Boston's Jesse Dee is a singing, songwriting, guitar-playing soul man-a modern day trailblazer inspired by the old school. Dee's passion is exploring and updating soul music for contemporary audiences. With his warm and honest sound, his instantly memorable melodies and positive, slice-of-life lyrics (evoking the heyday of the Brill Building songwriters), he accomplishes just that. His inventive, hook-filled songs are delivered with buoyant, youthful exuberance. Live, he always brings down the house, and keeps his ever-growing fan base coming back for more. His band lays down driving, infectiousgrooves while Dee's expressive vocals put him in a class by himself. On the strength of his fervent live shows, Dee plays to packed clubs in New England and has toured across Europe, earning new fans at every gig. The Boston Herald declares, "Dee has an explosive voice. He possesses a powerful, raspy tenor and an uncanny phrasing ability that can't be taught."

PSYCH WARD DRUGGIES

It took a mad scientist to make it happen. After working with a talented collection of artists and producers, the mysteriousfigure known as Dr. Csalohcin had an idea. The Southern California-based jack-of-all-musical-trades would combine all the talent around him, form a group and launch them through music, movies and comic books.

Yet this would be no normal group. It would be called Psych Ward Druggies and would have a specific mission. “He explained the concept to us,” says Golden Boy, one of the nine members of the crew. “That the world is a psych ward and we’re all drugged up by our society.”

Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew threw another fantastic show as we jumped back into our favorite place The Mint. Hot Tub had an extremely fun set prepared as he dropped tracks from STRNGRS, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Gigamesh, Elvis Presley and much more.

Renowned studio wizard and DJ, Danny Saber joined us for an intimate interview and special handpicked DJ set. Danny brought to us an exceptional collection of music which traced back to many of his favorite artists that he's worked with over the years featuring Marilyn Manson, Dave Navarro, George Clinton, Public Enemy and even a crossover remix of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" taken off his new album Saber Bytes Vol. 2. This was a fascinating interview loaded with great stories and timeless music from one of the most eclectic and accomplished producer/engineers in the business.

Kicking off our live performances was LA based electronic musician, ALEK FIN (aka Adam Finkel). Taking the stage for the first time in over a year, Adam and his band performed a brilliant set featuring new songs off his EP Mull. His lead single "Waiting Like A Wolf" highlighted the night along with standouts "Gone", "Rocks In Paper" and "Mull".

Next to perform on the show was the London based multi-intrumentalist duo, Bitter Ruin. Due to slight technical problems we were treated to a very special stripped down acoustic performance from on-top of The Mint's bar. All stood in awe of Georgia Train's beautiful vocals as they soared through the Hunnypot crowd. The highlight came with the performance of their new single "Diggers" taken from the forthcoming album Waves.

Our final performer was LA based (via Germany/Thailand) rapper, Azizi Gibson. Fresh off the release of his latest album Ghost in the Shell via Brainfeeder Label, Aiziz dropped some hard hitting smoked out bangers.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 09/23/2013

DANNY SABER

DANNY SABER

Los Angeles resident Danny Saber is not only known for his years playing guitar and bass with the Manchester, England-based Black Grape—he is also known for his skills as a producer, remixer, engineer, and DJ, and has worked with a long list of major artists ranging from Sheryl Crow to Madonna to Public Enemy. Saber is not an easy artist to categorize; he has strong alternative rock credentials, but he has also embraced everything from hardcore rap to industrial to trip-hop.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Saber was seriously into funk, heavy metal, and hard rock when he was growing up; his first experience playing on the L.A. club scene was in a hip-hop-influenced funk band called Proper Grounds. As time went on, he became even more eclectic in his tastes so eclectic that he eventually ended up having both rapper Busta Rhymes and veteran country-pop singer Willie Nelson on his résumé. Although Saber is American, the—aternative pop/rock band that brought him a lot of exposure in the mid-’90s—Back Grape—was edominantly British and was led by vocalist Shaun Ryder, formerly of the Happy Mondays.

BITTER RUIN

Bitter Ruin are Georgia Train and Ben Richards. Described as a boy/girl duo but never to be underestimated when it comes to both their live and recorded sound, Bitter Ruin's dynamic is a huge part of what makes them stand out. They met in 2007 and began crafting their sound through a number of self-released EPs. Interestingly, these multi-instrumentalists had wildly opposing musical in the Bjork-esque 'Diggers'. Bitter Ruin have been described by others as Noir Pop, Indie, Rock, Punk, Folk, Soul, Flamenco, Classical and so many more sub-genres, but the best thing to do is listen and make up your own mind.

Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew once again threw a fantastic show. Last week we packed in a frenzied crowd of Hot Tubbers at The Joint on Pico for show #273. DJ Hot Tub provided the tunes to open the night and featured new material from THINE, Purple, Sonic Youth, Capital Cities, Benji Hughes and much more. Also joining Johnnie to premiere new singles were two of our featured acts, Stacy Clark “Days into Nights” and The Moonbeams “Rock On”.

Leading us into the live performances was OC based singer-songwriter, Stacy Clark. Joining us for one of her first LA appaerances, Stacy played a beautifully crafted set of pop rock tunes highlighted by the standout tracks “Lose My Mind” and “Next Town” taken from her new EP Days Into Nights.

Next to the stage was none other than Hunnypot’s own and LA based rock trio, The Moonbeams. Lead by the beautifully talented, Beck Black, The Moonbeams stormed through a set of gritty rock jams with a punk infused attitude. Their two singles “Rock On” and “Lifes A Circus” were definitely the night’s highlight, but it was their ode to Iggy Pop and The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog” that power stamped the night.

LA based alt rockers, Guardian Ghost were next up. Fronted by lead singer-songwriter, Jesse Glick and backed by a powerful band, Guardian Ghost performed a brilliant set of ambient, electro infused rock tunes. Jesse and the boys premiered new songs as they’re preparing to release a new album later this month.

Closing out the night was another HP favorite, LA based indie-pop quartet, Y LUV. Fresh off the release of their new EP Take A Ride, Y LUV took to the stage with an explosive energy that translated into epeic performances of their standout tracks “Driftin'”, All I Wanna Do” and their catchy single from 2011 “Keep It Rollin”.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Joint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 09/09/2013

First on stage was LA based 40s flashback trio, The Goods. These 3 LA beauties were on hand to perform tracks off their brand new self-titled EP which was being released at Midnight. Taking the stage with a slightly smaller band The Goods still rocked out a stylistic set of swingin’ boogie-woogie jams.

Keeping the show in line was Hunnypot’s own DJ Boom Shack who dropped a killer set of current new tastemaker jams by Lolo, RAC (w. Kele, MNDR), Nightmares On Wax, Nicky Blitz, Etta Bond x Raf Riley and many many more.

Next up we had Opus Label/Hunnypot songstress, July Cruise, join us for a brief interview and to premiere her infectious debut dance single “A Song About You”. July also graced us with a special performance of her forthcoming single “Addiction Song” to be released later this year by Opus Label.

Set and ready to close out the show, was LA based DJ, Composer, Producer, Schpilkas. A Hunnypot Hot-Tubber for many years, this marked the first time Schpilkas took to the HP Airwaves’ 1’s and 2’s and he did not disappoint. Best known for his composer and production work for Film/TV and Video Games (Tia & Tamera, One Tree Hill, Family Wedding, Top Spin 4 and much more), Schpilkas prepared an onslaught of hip hop influenced, 80s electro dance favs including The Golden Palominos, INXS, Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, Madonna, Daft Punk and many many more classic gems.

In a special throwback to traditional Hunnypot Radio Shows, Hot Tub Johnnie prepared our first Sing-A-Long in over a year. It was Alicia Bridges’ classic 1978 disco hit “I Love The Nightlife (Disco Round)” Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. Elliott Goldkind

ELLIOTT GOLDKIND (COMPOSER & MUSIC EDITOR, INTERVIEW/DJ SET)

Elliott Goldkind has composed music for diverse media, ranging from orchestral and chamber music to film, television, and commercials. Elliott’s classical/concert music has been performed throughout the United States and Western Europe. His film scoring work has led to collaborations with Jeff Buckley, David Mamet and many talented young directors. Elliott received his B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, studied at Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris and the Hochschule fur Musik in Berlin. Stylistically, Elliott’s music ranges from lyrical to nails-on-blackboard. Ideally, he writes with pen and paper, leaving it up to “real musicians” to perform. However, for film and commercial applications, various electronic/digital approaches rear their ugly heads as well. Elliott was a founding member of the not-too-legendary New York rock bands “Bones Jones and the Jones Tones,” “Hodgepodge Lodge,” and “Freak of Nature.” Like too many others, Elliott is a native New Yorker living in Los Angeles.

THE GOODS *AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE

The Goods is a band formed by Los Angeles based recording artists Lucy Woodward, Holly Palmer & Michelle Lewis. While busy writing, recording and performing their own music, which is heard on iPods, TV, film and on stages around the world, they first came together to sing at at a mutual friend’s Christmas party. It was love at first note. They started writing songs together and called themselves The Goods. Their songs are inspired equally by The Andrews Sisters & Lena Dunham’s character “Hannah” from the HBO show “Girls”. Stylistically rooted in the swing and boogie-woogie era, their lyrics are strictly 21st century. What has emerged in their writing is an everywoman character who despite her best intentions is always getting into some kind of trouble. Their live show is a twisted, comical, slightly dark affair that leaves people wondering, “What did I just see?” and “When can I see it again?” They are currently at work on their debut release, which will be out this summer.

July most recently signed with Opus Label and will be releasing her new single this summer. “A Song About You” brings a beat to which you can dance yet infectious lyrics to sing along to. Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew once again threw a fantastic show at The Mint last week. For the 271st time, Hot Tub kicked off the show with a fresh set of jams which included new tunes from Malibu Shark Attack, Crystal Fightters, The Moonbeams, Light FM, Purple, ARTILARI and many more.

Our special guest DJ was none other than Hunnypot favorite and supervisor extraordinaire, Thomas Golubic. DJ Tommy G sat down for a brief interview to discuss some of his fine musical selections for the final season of hit TV show Breaking Bad, as well as his new Showtime Series, Ray Donovan. After that Thomas hit us with a fantastic DJ set loaded with hot remixes, electro, hip hop bangers and classic chilled out breakbeat soul funk hits.

First on stage was new LA based Hollyrock artist, Sami who just released her debut video for her single "Go On Darling" produced by Troublemaker. Sami performed a brilliant set of new tunes off her forthcoming album including standouts "Intertwine", "Secret Love of Mine" and "Hell Over You".

Next up we had Beaumont, TX based rock band Purple. This party rockin trio is lead by the highly talented, excentric lead singer/drummer, Hanna Brewer who displayed a star in the making performance. Purple stormed through an explosive, kick ass set playing their new single "Wallflower", as well as the standout "Beach Buddy".

To close out the show, was LA based headliners, Fever The Ghost who performed a colorful set of psych-pop gems. They have a new EP on the way in September and gave us a nice glimpse of what to expect when they played their sure hitting single, "Fathoms".

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you!  8-12-13

We’ve been keeping up with Sami since her cover of Willie Nelson‘s ‘Crazy‘ & now we bring to you the lady’s very first official music video. New track ‘Go On Darling‘ is a magical journey into a naive world, detailed in this ethereal track. Hunnypot Fever the Ghost square

FEVER THE GHOST

Everything I can imagine writing about Fever the Ghost’s acid-drenched psych-pop involves hallucinogenic drugs. Or what was on the turntable that one weekend you experimented with them. (Ahem.) Or how influences like the Seeds, the Electric Prunes, Procol Harum, the Doors and David Bowie run through the L.A. quartet’s music, which is sonically like aiming a can of spray paint at Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. Fever the Ghost — Casper Andrizzo, Bobby Victor, Nicolas Overhauser and Mason Rothschild — is just getting started; their self-released 7-inch “Rounder” (produced in analog fashion by Luther Russell) seems beamed in from the Summer of Love. They have the sure-to-be-a-single “Fathoms,” which sticks out of their jammy, experimental live set like a hamburger on a vegan menu. And they have an EP on the way in September on the Complicated Game imprint. Fever the Ghost is heavy on the effects, but equally heavy on complexities. The cosmos will want to hear more.

Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew once again threw a fantastic show at The Mint last week. For the 270th time, Hot Tub kicked off the show with a fresh set of jams which included new tunes from Sami, Kings of Leon, Das Tapes, The Weeknd, The FiNaTTicZ, July Cruise and many more that you can listen to here.

Our first guest DJ was Andrew Harper of Rocky Road Touring. Andrew sat down for a great interview with Hot Tub Johnnie before laying out a rockin’ set of new tunes from Texas based band, Purple, The Happy Hollows, Star & Dagger, Moving Units and many more.

Our next guest dj was Monica Vergel De Dios of the LA music blog, KonstantSurprises as well as working at Spin Media and manager of Arora (formerly Sonos). Monica’s set was a mix of electro dance cuts, chill electronic lounge and hip hop including cuts from Azari & III, Disclosure, Mayer Hawthorne, Arora, Cloud, Bonobo and many more.

First in stage we had Arora. An LA band who’s new album Bioluminescence dropped just a few hours after they got off stage. They performed using nothing except their 5 voices and their rig of live looping and effects pedals. It was such a different experience to see “electronic” music being made right in front of you. Arora is definitely a band worth seeing live.

Next up we had Parade of Lights; an alt-electro band based in Los Angeles. Their fast-growing popularity brought the fans and we had a full-blown rock show with a singing and dancing crowd. They played songs from their latest EP Born To Live, Born To Love along with their new single “We’re the Kids”.

Justin Cornwall hit us with his set and got the dance party started. This 21 year old entrepreneur knows how to throw down. He played an eclectic set with everyone from Justin Jay to Radiohead. He’s already traveled all over the country, but watch out for this guy, he’s going places!

To close out the show, the ever so alluring Katja Glieson took the stage. She performed three songs including her single, “Peek a Boo”. She left her home country of Australia at the beginning of the year to record and film her series of cinematic films/music videos.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you!  07/29/2013

ARORA

ARORA

LA band ARORA (previously Sonos) appears to be on the brink of a new sound as they gear up for the release of their resonant and addictive new album, BIOLUMINESCENCE. Two years in the making, "Bioluminescence" perfectly demonstrates the cinematic dream pop sound that is ARORA, marrying dreamy vocals with striking production. ARORA takes the album to the stage using nothing except their 5 voices and their rig of live looping and effects pedals. In 2012 they appeared on The Pet Shop Boys' album ELYSIUM.

PARADE OF LIGHTS

PARADE OF LIGHTS

Parade of Lights are an alt-electro band based in Los Angeles. Comprised of core members Ryan Daly and Anthony Improgo, the group combines equal parts rock, new wave, and shoegaze to create a unique blend of 80’s influenced pop drawing on inspiration from artists like U2, Depeche Mode, M83, and even Madonna. Recent music film and TV placements have gained the band considerable attention from music and TV insiders, not to mention a legitimate core group of dedicated fans. The exposure along with POL’s hook-laden songs and entertaining live show, led to a publishing deal December 2011 with Imagem Music. The band’s latest effort, an EP entitled “Born To Live, Born To Love”, was released in September of 2012…

Nu-soul chanteuse-turned-’90′s House disco diva Jessie Ware got our hearts racing a few months ago with endlessly danceable “Imagine It Was Us” And now, here is an accompanying video for the Julio Bashmore-produced disco throbber and—lo and behold—it’s equally amazing.

Jessie clearly knows how to get down at the club, hitting the floor with a fabulous crew of dance floor deviants and club kids: Prepare for high ponytails, pink fur throws, fruity drinks with tiny umbrellas, big hoops (the bigger, the better), Gaga‘s silly “Paparazzi” sunglasses, sweaty chests slathered in glitter and ample amounts of ballroom voguing that’d have Madonna beaming with pride. Just how cute and sexy does Jessie look pulling those shapes.

We really enjoyed Inch when she played on the 6/3/13 radio show and we're thrilled to debut the new single/video. In "Artful Dodger," Chua tells the story of Charles Dicken’s, Oliver Twist- a cunning, skilled, and immoral boy who notoriously avoids responsibility with humour and tact. Describing Oliver as an “artful dodger,” her vocals and lyrics express the troubles of an enduring love with such a boy. The conceptual video, produced Mighty Fresh (Justin Timberlake, Macy Gray) has been met with high praise as it spreads across the web. In its first week alone, “Artful Dodger” outperformed Inch’s previous releases, having clocked up over 25,000 views. That’s over 3,000 views per day! The song behind the video combines guitar hooks, punchy drums and Inch’s unique vocal-work to haunting effect, highlighting the left-of-centre visuals. Recently moving from Singapore to Los Angeles, the music video is Inch’s first move toward the US market as she prepares to launch her second full-length album, BUMFUZZLE, out globally on the 27th August. The single and album mark a new stage in Inch’s career as she widens her audience locally and abroad.
